Reading News for December 12-16

Last week before the holiday break!  Hard to believe that after this week the students won't be back to school until 2012!

We are doing push in next week with first grade as usual.  So, I will be meeting with Mrs. Amish's class on Monday and Tuesday.  I will also be meeting with Mrs. Sis's group on Wednesday and Thursday.  I had switched to just meeting with the 3 groups that need the extra reading time and it is working out well, because I get to read with them 2 days in a row.

My kindergarten RtI group is progressing well, I see improvements every week with recognizing more letters and numbers.  I will meet with them as usual next week as well.

My first grade RtI group will be starting a new unit next week.  We will be working on 2 new glued sounds- an and am.  We will also add in 3 new trick words- from, or, and have.

Push in for second grade next week is a little different.  The second grade classes are doing Holidays Around the World, so we will not have our guided reading groups.  I will helping Mrs. Schultz with teaching about the Mexican Holiday Monday- Wednesday afternoon.

My second grade RtI group is starting a new unit as well.  We will be working on the vowel-consonant-e syllable.  The first vowel is long and the e is silent- cape, home, pine.  We will also be working on the exceptions to that rule as well- give, olive, active.

This is also my last week with all my students.  I am going on my maternity leave starting in January.  I have enjoyed working with the students this year so far!  I am not sure who my replacement is, but should know by the end of next week.

Happy Holidays!

Reading News for December 5-9

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!  Hard to believe it is already December!

Next week in kindergarten, I will be working with my RtI group and we will be continuing with working hard on learning the letters of the alphabet and matching the sounds to go with them.  We have been doing some creative ways of writing the letters and the students seem to have fun with it!

In my first grade push in group I am working with Mrs. Amish's whole class and doing guided reading with them 2 days a week.  In Mrs. Sis's class we have switched to me working with 3 groups guided reading both days instead of the whole class.  We think it will be more beneficial to her class.

My first grade RtI group has dropped down to 3 students instead of 4 and we are working on the bonus letters f, l, and s as well as the glued sound -all.  We have added more trick words to our list and are incorporating some stories as well when we have time.

My second grade push in group with Mrs. Schultz's group we are also changing the guided reading.  I will be working with 2 groups from Monday through Thursday every day instead of the whole class twice a week.  We felt that the students are reading too many books at a time, with me, with Mrs. Schultz, and their anthology book that it is hard to keep track of which story is which.  Hopefully, this will work better.

My second grade RtI group has gone from 2 students to 3 students and we will be learning 4 new consonant suffixes next week- ness, less, ment, and ful; as well as 3 new vowel suffixes- able, ish, en.

I was able to meet many parents this week of the students I see in my RtI groups.  Great to meet you all!  Thanks for your support and help with your children!
