Reading News for October 31- November 4

Next week I will be starting my RtI intervention group with kindergarten.  We will be doing K-Pals intervention 3 days a week and some math support as well.  The other 2 days we will be working on core reinforcement using manipulatives.  I am looking forward to starting with this group.

In first grade, my RtI group is doing really well and we are moving forward into a new unit.  We will be starting on consonant digraphs and a lot more trick words.
First grade push in is going well too and the kids are reading better and better every week!

My second grade RtI group is moving right along as well.  We will finish up unit 3 next week and start unit 4 on suffixes -s,-es,-ed,-ing,-est,-er, and -ed.  We will also learn about more vowel teams -oa,-ow,-ou,-ue,-oe,-oo, and -ew.
This past week in second grade push in we worked on Halloween descriptive paragraphs- they were a lot of work but fun to do!  Next week we will be back into our guided reading groups reading new stories.

I hope you all have a great weekend and a safe Halloween!
Halloween parade and parties are Monday at 1:40.  Looking forward to them!

Reading News for October 24-28

Next week with my 1st grade RtI group we will continue reviewing and practicing the consonants f, l, m, n, r, and s.  We are working hard on blending these consonants together with other letters and forming three letter words.  We are also practicing writing and spelling these words correctly.  We are practicing sight words and trick words everyday as well.
First grade push in with Mrs. Amish's and Mrs. Sis's room is continuing to go well.  The students are really growing in their reading skills.
My 2nd grade RtI group is finishing up the unit this week on bonus letters f,l,s, and sometimes z, welded or "glued" sounds, and vowel teams.  We will start next week on a new unit in the concept of closed syllable exceptions, more glued sounds, story retelling, and more vowel teams- oi and oy.
Second grade push in next week is a writing workshop week, so we will be working on a descriptive paragraph on the students Halloween costume.

Have a great time at the Halloween Party tonight if you are going!

Reading News for October 17-21

We finished benchmarking the kindergarten last week and will be discussing the results with the kindergarten teachers on Tuesday.
I am continuing to enjoy working in Mrs. Amish's and Mrs. Sis's classrooms and watching the first graders grow weekly in their reading skills.
My first grade intervention group is working hard and we are learning all about how to sound out words by tapping, as well as, practicing sight words.
I am working with Mrs. Schultz's second grade group as well in the afternoon and we are having a great time reading new books in small groups.
My second grade intervention group is also working hard on glued sounds and vowel teams.  We are also drilling those trick words that can be so "tricky".

Friday is the Family Halloween Party at Ide, as well as, progress reports will be sent home.

Have a great week!

We have a short week next week and will be starting to benchmark kindergarten in reading and math.  We will not be doing our normal kindergarten, first and second grade push in because we will be benchmarking and it is such a short week.
I will be seeing my first and second grade RtI group in the morning and afternoon.  We will be working on 2 new units in each group.
My first grade group, we are done learning about the vowel and consonant sounds.  We will be moving on to blends and digraphs.
My second grade group, we are moving more into vowel teams and bonus letters.
