Reading News Week of October 3-7

Welcome to October!  can you believe that September is already over?  Hopefully we have some better weather in October than all the rain we had in September!

I am working with Mrs. Amish and Mrs. Sis and their students doing guided reading 2 days a week and am really enjoying getting to know the students in both rooms.
My first grade intervention group I am working with every day is doing well also.  We are doing the Wilson intervention program and in Unit 1, week 3 starting next week.  We are working on the consonant letters and their sounds. Next week we will finish up all the letters as we finish Unit 1.
I am having a great time doing guided reading with Mrs. Schultz's class as well 4 days a week.  I am really enjoying reading with the class.  I am able to meet with the whole class twice a week and do guided reading with them.  We are reading some great stories from the Reading A-Z Online Library.
I am also doing Wilson intervention with my second grade group who I meet with every day.  We will be finishing up Unit 1 next week on closed syllables, digraphs, and digraph blends.  Then starting Unit 2 and will be working on welded sounds and bonus letters.

Reading News September 26-30

It has been a busy week!  RtI is in full swing!  It is going great and I am enjoying all the time I get to spend with the first and second graders reading.
I am working with Mrs. Amish's and Mrs. Sis's rooms each two days a week in the morning.  The kids are so great and I love working with each student in such a small group.
I am also working with Mrs. Schultz's room four days a week in the afternoon.  Again, I am getting to know the second graders and working with them in the small group, which is really fun.
My intervention groups are going well and I think the students are enjoying the individual time they get with me.
Next week we start with kindergarten!
Happy First Day of Fall!

Week of September 19-23

We are starting RtI next week for first and second grade.  We have been busy getting all the data ready for implementing the students into the program.  Something new this year also is both first and second grade will have another teacher in their classroom 4 days a week for reading time.  This will be beneficial for the students and teachers.  The teachers will be able to do more individual reading with all the students in each classroom.  We are looking forward to starting this next week.

We hope you all had a great time at the Ide Book Fair and Ice Cream Social on Thursday, September 15.

We will be busy next week going through all the data we have collected on the students over the past couple weeks.  We are meeting with the teachers to discuss data of their own classroom.  We will be placing all the students into groups according to their levels.  We will start with interventions the week of September 19 for 1st and 2nd grade as well.

Next week is also Ide's Book Fair and Ice Cream Social.  Come and join the fun on Thursday, September 15 from 6:30-8:00.  Pick out some great new books to read for the fall!

Week of September 5-9

Welcome Back to the new school year of 2011-2012!  I have been anxious to start back this year.  I have been on an extended maternity leave for the past two years.  I am in a new position here at Ide this year and excited about it.  I had taught second grade before becoming the reading interventionist here at Ide.

Mrs. Nessling and I have been busy getting everything ready for the reading program.  We have been testing all the students and getting all the programs set up to start in the next couple weeks.
